these boys of mine, they are just full of pleasant surprises. we spent the afternoon and evening at my mom's for a bit of a reunion. the boys had a blast playing with a couple other kids, both big and small. it was so very nice seeing them run and play and just have fun!
we left soon after all that running and playing, without even thinking about getting a drink of water before heading for home. i had my water bottle, but had already drank most of the water when they realized how thirsty they were. i gave jonas and micah the rest to share between the 2 of them. eli had just had some milk, so i figured he'd be ok until we got home. jonas was drinking first, then passed it to micah. when micah had the bottle, he said to jonas "jonas, remember last time we had mom's water bottle in the van and you finished the water? would it be ok if i finished it this time?" to which jonas replied "sure."
this might not sound like that big of a deal, but if you could see the way these boys push each other's buttons and fight and just generally pick on each other, this moment of such sweetness and consideration and communication would be so endearing to you too! i have to try and remember these tender moments between them, to realize that they are growing into considerate people, and that it just takes time. i can't expect them to be little adults, or to have adult manners or ways of communicating. they'll get there, i just have to be patient and do my best to model the type of behavior i want them to learn.
one more sweet moment from micah happened when eli decided HE wanted some water too, just like big brothers. sadly, the water was already gone at this point, but micah said he wished he had saved a little for eli. and then he sang him a song.
Awww.. that was a sweet story! I know the feeling. I'm shocked you don't have 20 comments on this post alone! Audrey gave Clayton a hug and kiss tonight. That is something that they haven't done in a while. Thanks for sharing!
